St. George's Day 2004
We're having another good response to our St. George's Day plea and many of you are sending letters, emails & pictures depicting how you plan to celebrate the day. From everyone at WATE.com, a very big thank you to all who participate.
In no particular order, here they are...
Celebrating St George in Derby City Center
on 23 April 2003
This year was the best yet. Even the local
BBC Television turned up to report on our celebrations. These
are the scenes that greeted the people of Derby who turned
out to celebrate England's National Day. There was also a
mention on BBC Radio Derby and in the Derby Trader newspaper.
The Derby branch of The Royal Society of St. George provide
a wreath each year for the Mayor of Derby to lay at the Cenotaph
at 12 noon. Then it is on with the celebrations in good old
fashion English style.
This is the crowd of some 350 people watching
St George battle Bold Slasher to the death. The Three Shires
Medieval Society perform the "Mummers" play, St.
George each year. This is a resurrection play and St George
is killed by Bold Slasher but is brought back to life by the
Noble doctor.
St George and Bold Slasher fight to the death again, this
time in the Jorrocks public house. The jorrocks is dressed
out in bunting for the event.
St George is once more brought back to life by the Noble Doctor
and Bold Slasher, once more, runs away. The crowd cry "England
for St George" and everyone gets a pint. Well worth the
effort!

This is a picture of me and a mate enjoying

out we've had all year!!!Wish I had more, but we're hammered
very shortly after this was taken!!!

on display as we walked the streets chests bulging and heads
high.If you or anyone on the site is a midlander then join
this march next year from stone cross to the park and take
away an even more uplifting passion for your country. The site

Hi Guys, just thought I would let you know my pub is in stuffy
Cambridgeshire, Huntingdon to be more exact, I applied for
an extension, was
in court Thursday 15th April and got it no problem. Maybe
the tide is
turning maybe we will get a bank holiday on this special day,
long live St
George and happy St Georges day to everyone.
All the Best
Gary (Manager of the Lord Protector)
Greetings to everyone at "we are the English".
Happy St. George's Day to you all. Keep up the good work
of promoting your nation and its culture. May this St. George's
Day be a celebration of everything that's best about England
and Englishness. You have a lot to be proud of and to celebrate,
so don't be afraid to show it.
Like the heritage and culture my own people (the Ulster Scots)
your English culture and heritage often fails to gain the
respect it deserves, yet you have given so much of value to
the world and made an immense contribution to civilisation.
If the Scots or the Irish had half as much to shout about,
they would not be afraid to celebrate it, so why shouldn't
the English.
Hope you all have a great day on Friday.
Regards,
Ivan Dinsmore.
Happy St.George's Day.I will go out later to celebrate our
heritage, complete with a rose and an England Football top.
Enjoy the day.
Kind regards,
Christopher Wardell,
Darlington.
I will indeed look at the Pro-English groups on your site
with a keener eye. Just to let you know, I currently have
5 Cross of St George flags flying in and around my house,
but have to report that mine is the ONLY house in my street
of 35 with any kind of recognition of the day...how very sad.
Good luck to you all, and here's to one day actually being
able to stand in the street of MY own country, and declare
that I am English and proud, and not be called a racist.
Regards,
Craig Preston. Swindon.
I am flying the English flag out of my front house window
with pride, not I must add for football!
I will also only eat English food today and drink much English
alcohol...
Great site mate.. Keep up the good work, shall send you some
stuff from our St Georges Day celebrations!
Keep St George in my Heart keep me English
Jamie
Thanks and best wishes to you. I have SGC number plates on
my car, my Basset hound has an SGC collar, I think the neighbours
are getting the message as several houses nearby have SG flags
flying.

We are a group of ex pats living in Perth W.A. It is the
most English of all the capital cities in Oz. The main drag
here in Perth is Saint Georges Terrace !!!
We can celebrate the day without fear of being labeled racist
here.
I live on the island of rhodes and have done for many years
st george is also the patron saint here as well so me and
my fellow ex pats get the locals involved in celabrating as
well...have a gret day,wherever you are....
GOD SAVE THE QUEEN..wear your rose with pride...

Hello, we decorated our house as seen in the
picture, I decorated my works van, had a flag on my car. My
boss also lets me put up a flag at work. We sent cards to
our closest friends and had roast beef and yorkshire pudding
for dinner. Were going to have spotted dick with custard for
pudding but I'm too full. Anyway had a great day and am proud
to be English.
Yours Richard Charles and family
I made a promise at a St. Patrick's dinner with friends,
that I would not let my own country be treated so badly that
in London, we could have a St. Patrick's Day parade, but nothing
to celebrate our own Saint's day. Some years ago there were
local celebrations here in Enfield, but then we had a change
of politics locally and anything that made us proud to be
English was 'verboten'. Tonight (OK it's a day late!) I shall
be having my friends to dinner. Our butcher advertised St.
George's day with a notice urging us to eat beef - unfortunately
all the beef was from Scotland, so tonight it is English lamb
with home grown garlic and rosemary, plus all the trimmings
followed by an English trifle - good food! if a little plainer
than what we have become used to these days.
Please let us not be browbeaten by Ken Livingstone plus media,
saying there is no call for a celebration - just give us some
good publicity! After all, was it not Mr Wilson who said that
people liked to settle here because they like the English
way of life?
By the way - I am of immigrant heritage... my family were
Huguenots, persecuted by French Royalty hundreds of years
ago, but patriotism for all things English is in my family
and in my blood.
Good luck with the website

Rather than pick on the French, here in Toronto,
perhaps one of the most multi-cultural and ethically diverse
cities in the world, we are celebrating St George's Day with
a banquet fit for the saint himself.
