What's wrong with just sending them home without the £2500. Most sane people would agree that human rights are a good thing but I don't see what this has got to to do with human rights. They've broken the law so send them home, simple as that. This government seems to swing from disaster to disaster. Stories like this serve to highlight the true extent to which our country has descended into complete madness. How much money do we waste on things like this, how many hospitals or schools could we build with it. Human rights yes but not at the expense of common sense....TC

FOREIGN criminals serving time in Britain's jails are to be given thousands of pounds to persuade them to leave the UK in a drastic attempt to ease the prisons overcrowding crisis.
Up to 8000 foreign convicts, including violent and sexual offenders, could receive £2,500 of taxpayers money if they agree to serve part of their sentence in their homeland, or to leave Britain quickly on release without waiting for deportation formalities.
Under the scheme announced yesterday by Home Secretary John Reid, criminals will get the money in the form of help in starting up a business, medical care, housing or education and training in their home country.
The astonishing measure means violent criminals or drug dealers who would otherwise face deportation will instead be rewarded with generous sweeteners for going home of their own accord....
