Ex Labour leader Neil Kinnock has backed calls for all road signs to be changed to metric. Campaigners have suggested that it needs to be done before the olympics to stop us looking old fashioned. Kinnock declared that sticking with our imperial measures contradicted Britain's image as a "modern, multi-cultural, dynamic" Critics have said that the cost of changing all the signs could be as much as 1 billion.
