24th 2006 - small victory for common sense A bit of good news floating around in the normal ocean
of daftness that we've become accustomed to. A new headmistress
of a school in London where 59 languages are spoken has
rocked the educational establishment by coming up with the
wacky idea that all lessons will now be taught in ENGLISH.
Who'd have thought hey? Children at an ENGLISH school being
taught in ENGLISH. What will they think of next? Previously
many lessons had been taught in foreign languages, a practice
that was actually encouraged by the former Education Minister
Stephen Twigg. With his finger on the pulse as usual he
insisted it was "very much the sort of thing we want
to promote". (as long a sit's not at his kids school).
Mrs McVittie, the new head, stated that the system was harmful
to integration and threatened to damage the prospects of
those children taking part.
