The Red Cross banned its 430 shops from using nativity
scenes, angels and other religious symbols in their Christmas decorations.
Only tinsel escaped the purge. The reason given was fear of offending
Muslims. Christine Banks, a volunteer at a shop in Kent, said: “We
put up a nativity scene in the window and were told to take it out…we
were told it is because we must not upset Muslims.
We have been instructed that we can’t say anything
about Christmas and we certainly can’t have a Christmas tree.”
Lord Ahmed, the prominent New Labour Muslim peer, commented: “It
is stupid to think that Muslims would be offended.” A spokesman
for the Red Cross confirmed the purge of Christian images and commented:
“We don’t want to be aligned with any political party or particular
philosophy”.
Editor's comment: Like
many other big charities, the upper levels of the Red Cross are staffed
by well to do, London based, liberal types with their own agenda. Once
again we see them using the alleged sensitivity of some minority group
or another to push their own anti traditionalist views. The
comment about not wanting to be seen as aligned with any political viewpoint
is unbelievable. The Red Cross spent much of 2002 campaigning on the highly
political issue of the Sangatte camp, and “asylum seekers”
generally.
Far from helping relations
between different races and religions, ludicrous policies like this fuel
resentment and distrust. Once again we have another stupid middle class
white person making an issue of something which to the vast majority of
the population there is simply no issue to be addressed. Why don’t
they just leave us all alone and stop dipping there oar in and preaching
to the silent majority from on high. Every time they pipe up it simply
helps to drive another wedge between the different communities that inhabit
this island.
