april 25th 2002 - daily telegraph

While eagerly throwing cash at St Patrick's Day bashes, Ken Livingstone was dismissive about the claims of St George's Day, glibly claiming that no one had asked him to support it. The Mayor of London was, in fact, contacted more than a month ago by the Royal Society of St George, which requested modest financial support for an event at the Cenotaph.

It received a rejection slip from Ken's "external relations" department stating that the mayor only supported "events celebrating the contribution of London communities to the city's culture"

WATE's comment: Obviously the English haven't contributed anything to London's culture!! I actually quite like Red Ken - it's quite a rare thing to find an honest politician. Having said that, he still speaks complete rubbish 90% of the time.
