The Institute of Public Policy issued a report stating
that football should reclaim the English national flag from its association
with racism. A spokesman said "..football is the peoples game, it
is not all white" It suggested charity games and competitions across
the country.
WATE's comment:I don't know where these so called think tanks
come from, or how much they get paid and by whom, but as usual they don't
have a clue what they are talking about. They don't live in the real world
and are usually middle class people living in the leafy suburbs who wouldn't
be seen dead at a football match. Our flag doesn't need reclaiming from
racists and the only people who say it does are the kind of people who
write these reports.
This is further perpetuated when the same people infer that the flag
is racist by telling us to take it down because it offends people. How
we are supposed to reclaim it when they don't even want us to fly it in
the first place I will never know. They say football "is not all
white" It doesn't take Einstein to figure that one out. Just look
at the English national side. They suggest charity games and competitions
should sort out the problem. What about an aggressive T-shirt campaign
or handing out flowers on the terraces.
These people are totally self serving. They make an issue of something
when to most people there was no issue there in the first place purely
so that they can write a report about it and pick up a nice paycheque
at the end of the week.
