Folks
No we haven't emigrated (or been in prison). Sorry we haven't
been in touch for a while as the summer is normally our
busiest period so it's been all hands on deck for the last
few months. We're slacking off a bit now so you'll be pleased
to know that we can bother you far more frequently.
Site Updates.
White Dragon Merchandise
Many of you will already be aware that we now have a full
range of White Dragon merchandise. We've been completely
taken by surprised with the extent of interest that this
merchandise has aroused. On the run up to the World Cup
the White Dragon flags actually out sold all five different
versions of the St George Cross flags that we do, put together.
We've already had to re-order t-shirts etc several times
and the flags have been mentioned on Radio 5, Talk Sport
and appeared on various occasions in both The Telegraph
and the Daily Mail. Take a look if you haven't already done
so - http://www.wearetheenglish.com/flag_white_dragon.htm
Who Are Yer?
We've updated this article. Although it looks a long one
it only takes a few minutes to read - unless you struggle
with the long words (if you do, get a parent to help). Let
us know what you think. I'm sure, as usual, there are loads
of spelling mistakes there which you will all, no doubt
let us know about. We like to keep you on your toes. Take
a look here - http://www.wearetheenglish.com/whoareyer.html
Dates For Your Diary
Traditional Music Day
Many of you may have pre-conceived ideas about Folk music
but if you try it, you may well surprise yourself. We certainly
did. This is the music that our people have worked, danced
and drank to. By listening to it you can in some way get
closer to them. You can certainly learn more about their
everyday lives and experiences and about what they have
been through than you can by reading a book. It's being
held at the Museum of East Anglian Life in Stowmarket. It's
on TOMORROW (Saturday 2nd September) and is run by the East
Anglian Traditional Music Trust (Tel: 01449 771090). Their
web site is here http://www.eatmt.org.uk/traditional_music_day.htm
.We're a bit late with this but you can pick tickets up
on the day by phoning them.
The Harold Stone
The annual wreath laying ceremony to commemorate Harold
I, the last true King of the English and all those Englishmen
who died that day defending their homeland from the invader.
This event is getting bigger every year and is becoming
a bit of a yearly get together. There is also a battle re-enactment
and Anglo-Saxon village. There are also plenty of good restaurants
and pubs so it's well worth making a weekend of it. The
ceremony takes place around 1pm at the Harold Stone in the
grounds of Battle Abbey, in Battle (just outside Hastings)
on Saturday 14th October. Many people meet in the 1066 Pub,
just over the road, from about 12ish.
And Finally...
Thanks for all the positive feedback and support that you
have given the site. Over the last few months we have been
receiving well over 50,000 unique visits per month which
in June translated into over half a million hits. Always
let us know what you think, both good and bad. We hope in
these days of great upheaval for many English people it
will encourage us all to come together and take a greater
interest in who we are and this will in turn encourage a
greater sense of an English communal identity. We have to
look out for ourselves. It doesn't appear anyone else is
going to do it for us.
