Did You Know...
That since devolution the people of Scotland, Wales and
Northern Ireland have had their own parliament and assemblies each dealing
with their own domestic affairs such as policing, health, education, environment
etc and representing solely the interests of their own people. England
is the only country that is still run entirely by the UK Parliament made
up of MP's from every country within the UK.
The people of England are at a disadvantage because
unlike the other home countries we do not have anyone who represents us
and us alone. We should have our own parliament to run along side
the UK Parliament where we can make our own decisions on issues
that affect the people of England. Until we have our own parliament we
will continue to be discriminated against on a cultural, economic and
political level. Read on...
The
English people have for many years borne the heaviest burden
of "Britishness". While the people of the other
home countries, through their parliaments, are actively
encouraged to celebrate their national identity, culture
and history we are not extended this same courtesy.
An
English Parliament would better enable the people of England
to pursue policies which help preserve England's identity
and improve our environment.
Why
should Scottish MP's have a say in issues which affect the
people of England when English MP's have no say at all in
how the Scots govern themselves. This also raises issues
such as how they vote fairly on English matters when they
have a prior obligation to protect the interests of their
own country.
This
economic inequality means that the Scottish Parliament has
been able to offer all Scottish students free tuition fees
without having to raise additional taxes. This is to be
denied to English citizens. They have also proposed that
Scottish citizens in care homes receive free nursing and
personal care.
An
English parliament dealing with issues such as health, education,
police, planning, environment etc would lead to more effective
and accountable decision making while at the same time bringing
government closer to the people and giving everyone a greater
sense of identity, purpose and direction.
For reasons unexplained England is not deemed worthy
of a parliament and is to be split up into 9 regions thus ensuring that
we are unable to speak with one voice and unable to serve the best interests
of the people of England. Now is the time to make our voice heard; it
is time for a change.
